Green Lace Fingerless Gloves

I finished my beloved green gloves. They are everything I thought they would be. The lace pattern and decreases make a lovely visual. Very streamlined. As I am waiting to buy yarn, I used up some of my mystery yarn from ebay. I do not recommend buying yarn from ebay, it was not the color I thought it would be. Unless you see the brand you can go and look up elsewhere to make sure you know what you are getting stick to yarn stores!! The mystery yarn was very soft though, so I used it in a cabled hat, and I am making gloves with a cabled pattern to match. What I can whip up when I am bored! It makes me smile to show off my lace and cables to the family women...sisters and Mom. They are the sewers..I was never good at that. They have nothing on my lace!! HAH! Well I am into yet another phase of knitting. The garment phase. I am getting a collection of toddler patterns together. I want to start sweaters. I feel I should start with a small size first before committing to a large adult sized project. I need to practice, plus I can crank them out at a faster pace. Today I bought a blocking board and pins to get myself started when it comes time to block that first article of clothing. I am excited!! With my collection of patterns and knitting books growing, I have a good selection of sweaters to chose from!! America, watch the next phase begin!!!

Double Knitting and Needle Cases

I have a new obsession. Double knitting. I have not tried it before so I am researching. There is a book, Son of Stitch 'n Bitch, that has an amazing scarf pattern in argyle. I am in love. I was so very confused about the double knitting technique. So I did some research, and its actually making two layers of fabric at a time and twisting the end of the two yarns together at the end of each row. You knit the side facing you and you pearl the stitch next to it to make the opposite happen on the other side. You use two contrasting colors, and you knit 1 with color A and purl one with color B. I was so confused and really began to over-think it. I thought you were knitting onto each stitch twice, like a KFB, but I was wrong. You are actually making two layers that are totally reversible!! WOW. And casting on double the amount of stitches in the beginning to make a base row. I am going to try this soon...
Also, in the dry spell of not buying yarn(I ended up buying a digital camera on ebay, got to love ebay. that used up my yarn money for the week...lol). I have begun to make some cases for my needles. I have three sets of bamboo needles, one double pointed set sized 1-15, and two single pointed sets sized 1-15 in 9" and 13". I needed a place to keep the needles together and something that was aesthetically pleasing. I saw a design for a needle case in the Stitch 'n Bitch Nation book. I am in the process of finishing up the second case, and starting the third. I will post pictures of the finished cases, (hopefully using my new camera!!! ) All of my projects when finished will be posted here, but also in more detail on my Ravelry page. I am posting my lace long gloves soon, that are almost done, but my case making has gotten in the way of their progress. Poor gloves, I will try to spend time on you today....

My Obsession with Gloves

I am in need of building my stash up for sweaters ponchos and the like I have needed to knit smaller projects to fill my time. I have fallen in deep love the the book Romantic Knits. this woman knows what she is talking about. The idea of knitting a blocky, bulky, sweater that would be ugly and never worn seemed to me a great waste of time!! I need to have sexy, fitted, knits, who would want to wear something that was not flattering? My ego tells me I would not!! So until payday and some extra cash...I will have to make small projects. I am currently working on a modified pattern for the Some Like it Hot, long gloves. I say modified because I am using a DK weight instead of the called for Sport weight. I wanted a smaller glove. I do not want it to go up to my elbows but I do want a longer glove than the traditional size. Also I have chosen to make them fingerless. Must have the fingers free for knitting!! I am about 75 % done. I will post pictures of the finished project. They are dark green, My favorite color, and my husband wants me to add white trim to represent the school colors of Western Reserve. His alma matter ....I chuckle. He has really began to embrace my knitting, and by the way, I do recant the comment I made before about him not being supportive. He has really been, I was upset when I wrote those things. But he was impressed when I showed him the first finished glove. I love that lace pattern she used. You know me and lace>>>>
I will show you when I am done...they are magnificent!!!

Hello all,
Glad to see you are interested in my life. I am starting a blog because well, honestly I have been bitten by the knitting bug and I cannot stop. It started with simple crochet a few years back, mostly scarves, but then I got bored and decided to teach myself to knit. I got all of the "I taught myself knitting" resources I could find and hammered it all out. I was obsessed with knit and purl and made patterns with them. Then I got bored. Lace was my new obsession. Yarn over and knit two together, things I had never known!! Then I got bored again. I made a pair of simple mittens for my kids. And whammo, a new world, I could actually branch away from the flat scarf land and make real clothes. I have begun to gather patterns and make more items for my family. I have decided to blog to keep track of all of my wonderful creations.
I am a mother of two beautiful twins, a boy Isaac, and a girl Grace. They have just turned one year old. I knit items for them now. They never will be cold again. My husband is very fashion sensed and loves sweater vests and argyle. So with this combination I hope to have many interesting projects to keep me busy.
With this blog I am hoping to find other like minded knit crazed people to share with. I need knitting friends lets face it!!
So enjoy my knits!!!
